History 🏰

Bahrain, also known as ‘two seas’ in Arabic, is known for its prehistoric ‘Dilmun’ civilisation. It was a notable trade-off centre of which was able to control the Persian Gulf’s exchange routes. Bahrain was called the two seas after the salty sea mixed with the sea with fresh water from the story of Enki and Ninhursag during the Dilmun period. Dilmun is known as the land of immortality and life. Dilmun existed from the 4th millennium to 330 B.C.Whenever a person died they would be buried underground,in a chamber, with everything they own: jewellery, pots and even servants. They believed that in the afterlife they will need their servants and items. Also in year 1 A.D. Bahrain was known as Tylos…which was named by a Greek sent by Sir Alexander the Great. Uradus was the name given to the island of Muharraq. Bahrain had a lot of pearl trading and pearl divers but as time and technology developed, very few still do pearl diving. The pearl -diving industry fell also beacuse of the oil discovery in the 20th century (1932).The oil discovery caused a major change in Arabic countries as well, as Bahrain became the middle-east's first contry to find  and pump oil. Then Bahrain was called Awal.Awal was one of the gods that has been worshipped before the appearance of Islam in this country. Bahrain is now a mainly Muslim country. Bahrain was also invaded by many countries such as Portugal and Britain. It was ruled by the Portuguese for 81 years: from 1521 till 1602.After that it was ruled by the Persian for 181 years. Finally and lastly, Bahrain was ruled by the royal family of Al Khalifa since 1783.

Al-Khalifah's reign returns to the 18th century. They initially came from Al Zubara, Qatar. Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifah became Prince in the year 1961.Ten years after that, 14 August 1971, th first official declaration was given that Bahrain became an independent country, however it was declared by Sheikh Khalifah bin Salman Al-Khalifah, the prince's brother;this meant that Bahain ended its military and political relationship with Britain. Then on June 27 1964 there was an announcement that King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifah is to be crown prince. While he was crown prince he achieved much, he took care of sports as well as women's rights. Then he became king and he turned Bahrain into a Kingdom, he changed the flag so it would have 5 triangles that each represents one of the pillars of Islam. He announced the reform project, constitutional amendments, a vote on the national working charter and taking the parlimentary system etc.His speech after becoming king at 13 March 1999 speaks of the honesty and good connection as well as the agreements the king is going to have with his people and explained how he was going to improve Bahrain into the best. With all the achievements named nd not named the people understood and viewed the developments as years and time passed by.

Geography and Climate⛅

Bahrain was an archipelago of 37 islands. It is located by the Persian Gulf, the middle-east,being 22.5 km(1dp) from Saudi Arabia(Dammam),27.4(1dp) from Qatar(Al Khuwayr). Also, there is a causway that links Bahrain to Saudi Arabia and the causeway from Bahrain to Qatar is planned and is being worked on. Bahrain has a desert arid climate. It has a moderately warm summer and a chilly winter Bahrain was known in the past to have what is close to a million palm trees. Bahrain receives 35mm of rainfall on average every year. Winter in Bahrain is quite similar to the summer in Britain. The daily weather is usually humid and warm or hot. Sometimes the sky is cloudy.Approximately 72.5% of Bahrain's land was reclaimed-meaningly, most of Bhrain's land was made by inflling the sea with sand , cement or clay. The total land area is 619 km square, so abot 449 km square ( 1dp) is reclaimed land. Most of the time the rainfall season is consistent in Bahrain, however with the change of climate, the timings of rainfall started becomig quite unusual: it rained this year in the end of March (spring season).

It recieves fog often in the month of Janury and in the beginning month of February -the fog is extemely thick like the ones you wouds see in mountains that are really white and thick and hard to see from.Nevertheless, the visiblity in Bahrain is usually clear throughut the year(with a few exceptions).Furthermore,Bahrain recieves sand storms or dust frequently in a yearly basis. The highest amount of dust recieved was in the year 2008 and the lowest being in 1996 and 1998.Bahrain is also relatively humid, the highest maximum mean being in the month of January and the lowest minimum mean being in the month in the months May as well as June. The wind that Bahrain gets is warm and isn't moist but dry.In some very rare occassions ( a couple of times),hail fell in Bahrain;'this is abnormal.Rarely  does Bahrain recieve moments like these of which hail falls. These little white round cotton-like balls are possibly the coldest thing Bahrain evr got-excluding the sickening cold winter weather.
